St. Croix Central has been imposing their will on other teams with their size and athleticism and last Friday was no exception. Freedom jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter behind two TD passes by QB Matt Verhasselt but then the wheels came off the Irish and the Panthers took control, scoring the next 36 points. QB Collin Nelson and FB Ryan Larson combined for 300 yards and 5 rushing TDs in the 42-21 victory as the defending D4 champs advanced to the title game against Lodi. The Blue Devils shutout Martin Luther 17-0 in Level 4. In that game, Lodi's all state RB Jacob Heyroth rushed 28 times for 141 yards. Good numbers but Heyroth went over 300 yards rushing in the first three playoff games and has 2758 yards on the season. Slowing the Blue Devils running game will be a key to winning for the Panthers but Lodi's defense may have the biggest role in this title game. Lodi only gives up an average of 60 yards per game on the ground but it is very unlikely they have seen an offensive line as big and physical as that of SCC's.

Rice Lake continued their late season run with a commanding 28-7 win over Green Bay Notre Dame in Level 4 play last Friday. The Warriors QB Peyton Buckley is operating the midline running game with precise execution. Fullback Brandon Sutton was again the workhorse with 25 carries for 166 yards to lead the offense to 390 yards on the ground. Something has to give in the title game though as New Berlin Eisenhower only gives up 110 yards per game rushing on the season. The first half will tell the tale of Rice Lake's chances as the Lions have outscored opponents 321-14 in the first two quarters. New Berlin Eisenhower's QB Bryce Miller needs to be on in his passing attack if the defense cannot slow the Warrior's relentless running game.
