Northwestern took on WIAA royalty last week and didn't blink against 10 time state champ Stratford. Jumping to an early lead, the Tigers watched a poised Stratford team fight back and pull within six late in the fourth. A big 54 yard touchdown pass from Kamden Kroll to Tysen Teal clinched the 22-13 win and the right to face Mayville in Madison. Mayville beat a very good Lake Country Lutheran team 27-15 to advance to the championship game. The Cardinals feature RB Landen Baker in the backfield. His 211 yards on 33 carries paved the way for Mayville's fourth quarter comeback. The Cardinals have only thrown for 374 yards this year so their game plan will not waver from what they do best. Tight Level 2 and 3 wins have seen the Cardinals tested and respond with comeback poise. Northwestern, as a team, has nearly identical rushing totals, but have a definite edge in passing. RB Tysen Teal has 1829 yards on the ground, but the key weapon may be junior quarterback Kamden Kroll.

Going into the Level 4 game between C-FC and Lourdes Academy, it was expected that the first team scoring three times would walk away with the win. The battle between these two defensive giants proved the scoreboard expectations to be correct, it just took two overtime sessions to get there. The Pirates took advantage of two breakdowns by the Knights, one, a red zone fumble recovery, and the second a 55 yard run by QB Parker Kujak to forge a 14-7 lead at halftime. With the game tied at 14 after four quarters, the overtime would be a heart stopping tale of two field goal tries. The Lourdes attempt was knocked down by the right upright while C-FC' s kick split the posts for the win. In the championship, the Pirates face powerhouse Kenosha St Joseph. The Lancers moved on to Madison with a dominating performance against Potosi/Cassville in Level 4. The Chieftains could only manage 125 yards of offense while surrendering 411 total yards to Kenosha St Joseph. The Lancers were led by QB Zach Rizzo's 198 yards passing and RB Christopher Kenesie's 161 yards on the ground. This has been the winning formula for the Lancers all season. As good as the Cochrane-Fountain City defense has been this year, they will be hard-pressed to battle a potent balanced offense and an equally rugged defense. Turnovers will play a big part in this game.
