Hudson has not been flashy enough in their wins to get people's attention but opposing coaches sure stand up and notice. A loss to Menomonie two weeks ago was followed up by an outstanding performance against an unbeaten Rice Lake team last week. Hudson trailed early but fought back to score at the end of the first half using their usually dormant passing game to close the gap in the last seconds. A key fumble then turned the tide as Hudson recovered and went ahead to stay against the Warriors. That same bend but don't break defense will be needed against Memorial this week. The Old Abes will need a flawless performance on offense from QB Keagan Calchera and RB Jack Brown to move to 7-0 and 5-0 in the Big Rivers.

The Mustangs were a bit erratic in their win at Superior last week. Superior jumped to an early lead before Menomonie, behind the hard running of Justin Evans, was able to put this game away. Evans finished with a sterling 227 yards rushing and 3 TDs to keep up with Memorial atop the Big Rivers. This week's opponent is a familiar one and many times over the years, Rice Lake has brought a dynamic team into this matchup only to see their dreams crushed at the hands of the Mustangs. The Warriors QB Peyton Buckley needs to work his option read magic to keep Menomonie off balance and hopefully include a long pass or two to Kenny Bednarek to pull off the seemingly impossible.

The Cloverbelt has turned into a 3 team league with the title determined in the first four games each season. Regis was too raw to beat Stanley-Boyd in week 2 and Spencer/Columbus made too many mistakes in week 3 at Stanley to lose a heartbreaker after leading at the half. Now in Week 7, both teams are playing extremely well and playing the Orioles again might have different outcomes. Regis has played great run defense in the last two wins to show they can stop the ground game while piling up first downs when they have the ball. For Sp/C, Sr. RB Hunter Luepke has turned into the running beast that everyone knew was coming. He is a difference maker that makes Sp/C an easy pick but recall what Regis did in last year's state title game, stopping one of the best runners in the state to win the gold ball. At Carson Park, the turf is fast but that works for Regis' defense as well as Luepke's power running.

Another outstanding matchup of 6-0 teams but this time from the Middle Border. Both teams can roll a state championship trophy out on display from recent success and the winner of this game may have a confidence boost that could launch them into the 2017 playoffs. For the Panthers, the game will be an exhibition of smooth offense, playing hide and seek with the football while amassing first downs. The defense has been great but will have to contend with the fastest offensive team they have seen yet. Osceola has not peaked on offense and this game must show that they are ready to step up to the level of state championship play. At a neutral site, SCC wins easily, but at Osceola is another story.

The Panthers have surprised everyone with their 5-1 start and a win over the Tigers would be a huge jump into contention for a high playoff seed. Ellsworth is not a big play offense but QB Drake Flom is a definite threat that New Richmond has to control if they want to stay in reach of a Middle Border title share. The Tigers have similar numbers from QB Mikah Kier but the difference is that they are a big play offensive team. If Ellsworth can make long drives when they have the ball and force New Richmond to do the same thing then the game comes down to the fewest mistakes for the winner.
