The Wisconsin Baseball Association
will hold it's state finals at Oakey Park in Osceola
this weekend. Area teams competing include the Eau Claire Bears,
Prescott Pirates and Bloomer Fightin Woodticks.
The Eau Claire Express will
face the St. Cloud River Bats in the Northwoods
League Championship Series this weekend.
Game 1 is in St. Cloud Thursday night and games 2 and 3 ( if necessary )
will be at Carson Park in Eau Claire.
Rob Bullard
from Osceola will be an assistant football coach for St.
Croix Falls this season. Coach Bullard coached the Osceola
Chieftains football team some years ago.
Kari Schemenauer
is the new head volleyball coach at Chetek high school.
Bloomer residents may remember her from her playing days as a Blackhawk.
UW-Stout
alum and former standout guard Erin Churchill will return
to Johnson Fieldhouse this upcoming basketball season to be an assistant
coach on Mark Thomas's staff. Churchill played for the Blue Devils from
2001-2005.
The UWEC Volleyball team was
not only very good on the court last season but very good in
the classroom as well. The American Volleyball Coaches Association recently
presented the Blugolds with an academic award. The award is presented to
teams who maintain a 3.30 GPA or better so congratulations to the Blugold
Volleyball team!
The St. Croix Falls girls golf team
won the 13 team golf scramble in Barron back on August 9th. It is
the 3rd consecutive year the Saints have won the golf event in Barron.
Many high school football teams take to the
gridiron this weekend for scrimmages in preparation for their season openers
which are next weekend. We will have all the scores, stats and standings
right here on West Wisconsin Sports.
Reports have surfaced that Ben Sheets
appears to be on track for a September 1st return to the Milwaukee
Brewers mound. The Brewers pitching has suffered
since he went on the disabled list.
The hottest rumor making the rounds on
multiple websites this week is that despite earlier reports Cole
Kraft may not be headed to UW-Stout this fall.
Kraft's name has also been removed from Coach Andrist's list of recruits
from the 2007-2008 season. It was on there as recently as three weeks ago.
The Big Ten Network announced
this week that 11 of the Wisconsin Badgers 18 conference
games in Men's basketball this season will be televised by
the network. The bigger question becomes will viewers who do not get DirecTV
be able to see their beloved Badgers play those games? Stay tuned as
negotiations continue with Charter Communications, Dish
Network and other carriers.
