According to an article by Jay Glazer of Foxsports.com Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre asked to be traded shortly after the NFL draft. He was very unhappy that a deal did not get done to bring former Raiders and Vikings WR Randy Moss to Lombardi Avenue. As it stands now the situation seems to have cooled off a bit thanks to a long phone conversation Favre had with current Packers head coach Mike McCarthy a few days ago. Stay tuned.
 
Senior Matt DeMars of Eau Claire Regis will be heading to UW-La Crosse in the fall to play basketball for Eagles coach Ken Koelbl. Matt was first team all-city and 2nd team all-northwest this past season in helping to lead the Ramblers to their first WIAA state appearance. Matt is also a member of the National Honors Society.
 
UW-La Crosse senior centerfielder Jenny Miller of Durand high school was recently named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Softball Second team. Jenny has a 3.87 GPA and was also a recipient of the 2007 WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award. Jenny was also recently named to the WIAC softball First Team for the 2nd consecutive year.
 
St. John's University (Collegeville, MN ) junior Erik Diley of Prescott high school recently smashed a 26 year-old Johnnies record by jumping 7.23 meters in the Men's long jump at a St. Olaf College track meet.
Erik went on to qualify for the NCAA Div. III National meet by winning the the long jump at the MIAC outdoor championships and finishing 2nd in the triple jump. Congratulations and good luck to him!
 
The UWEC Blugold softball team is going to Salem, Virginia! The Blugolds beat UW-Oshkosh 7-3 in the NCAA Regional championship game Sunday afternoon at Gelein Field in Eau Claire. The Golds will now travel to Salem, Virginia for the NCAA D-III championships which begin on Friday. Keep it locked in here for all the latest scores of the Blugolds championship run.
 
The WIAA softball tournament begins later this week with games in Divisions 2, 3 and 4. Keep it locked here for all your tournament scores.
 
Senior Zach Lee of Ladysmith has announced his intentions to join the the UWEC track & field team next year. Zach was a state qualifier last year in multiple events and is currently on the West Wisconsin Sports 2007 track & field honor roll which is updated weekly.
 
Senior Vinnie Campbell of Baldwin-Woodville has announced his intentions to attend UWEC next fall and be on Coach Todd Glaser's football team. The future looks bright for UWEC football with incoming freshman QB Ben Luehrs from Hudson and WR's Mike O' Connell from Eau Claire Regis and Campbell.  Vinnie is also busy with the Blackhawks track & field team and is also on our West Wisconsin Sports honor roll in the triple jump.
 
The hottest rumor making the rounds these days is that former All-Northwest player of the year Cole Kraft from Menomonie is leaving Winona State University and possibly transferring to UW-Stout to play basketball for Coach Ed Andrist. Stay tuned.
 
Coach Andrist recently announced the transfer of Durand native Jerrod Buchholtz to UW-Stout from Viterbo college. While at Durand Jerrod became the Panthers all-time career scoring leader and was named to the 2006 WBCA All-Star team.
 
Marquette head basketball coach Tom Crean was in Eau Claire last week for a speaking engagement and told local media afterwards that his staff would be scouting in the Eau Claire area over the next few years. Per NCAA rules he is not allowed to divuldge names at this time but it's no secret that junior-to-be Tyler Brown and sophmore-to-be Evan Anderson who will both be playing for Eau Claire North next season have been drawing some college interest from NCAA Division 1 schools.
 
Finally, some high school basketball coaching vacancies have opened up in the area. Eau Claire Memorial's Jim Kasmarek recently announced his resignation. According to the Durand Courier-Wedge Panthers head coach Harold Mulhern has submitted his resignation. According to multiple media sources including the Osceola Sun and Inter-County Leader, St. Croix Falls head coach Todd Anderson's contract was not renewed by the St. Croix Falls school board despite several current and former players speaking favorably on his behalf at a May 8th board meeting.

Eau Claire Memorial has hired Greg Van Grunsven as it's new head basketball coach. Osseo-Fairchild girls head basketball coach Tony Calo has resigned to take a job with a pharmaceutical company. Coach Calo led the Chieftains to a state tournament appearance back in March.
