Level 3 of the WIAA playoffs is here. Some of the more intriguing matchups include the best from the Heart O' North conference (Chetek) vs the best from the Large Cloverbelt conference (Stanley-Boyd)

Somerset plays Tomahawk in a Division 4 game on Saturday and the Spartans will wear a # 53 decal on each of their helmets remembering their teammate Cody Dalton. Cody walked off the field after a special teams kickoff  last Saturday in their game vs Bloomer when he suddenly fell and was motionless for a period of time. Cody was transported a Bloomer hospital and then transported to the Luther Hospital trauma care unit in Eau Claire. Cody underwent surgery and remains in the critical care unit of Luther hospital. You can keep updated on Cody's condition by going to www.caringbridge.org and then enter Cody's name.
There are several ways in which the public is invited to help Cody Dalton and his family. First, your continued thoughts and prayers are encouraged and appreciated. Secondly, there are several fund-raisers that will be taking place to help the Dalton family. Most of the following information is provided by www.rivertowns.net

This Saturday, the Somerset National Honor Society will be putting on a bake sale during the tailgating before the football game. Each cookie will be sold for $1.

There will also be buttons available with Cody's picture, name and number. These will be sold for $5. All of the proceeds will go to Cody.

Benefit planned for Somerset's Cody Dalton

A benefit for Somerset High School football player Cody Dalton has been scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11, in conjunction with the Green Bay Packer-Minnesota Viking game.

The Nov. 11 will be held at General Sam's in Somerset. The benefit will be $100 tickets at General Sam's to watch the Packer-Viking game. Each ticket will admit two people for food and refreshments. The tickets will also be good to be part of a payout on each quarter score. A silent auction will be held during the game as part of the benefit. Anyone who would like to purchase tickets or donate items for the silent auction can contact Brad Nemec at 247-5552. Tickets will also be available at General Sam's.

A bank account has also been set up at S&C Bank for Cody to help his family deal with his medical bills. Anyone can make donations to the Cody Dalton Fund by visiting any S&C Bank.

Eau Claire Memorial head football coach Pat McGinnis and offensive coordinator Ken Ripp have resigned. Coach McGinnis resigns after 15 seasons with the Old Abes. He is credited with revitalizing the program, increasing the number of athletes participating and leading the Old Abes to several playoff appearances. Coach Ripp resigns after spending 32 years as an offensive coordinator with the Abes program. Head coaches during that time included Phil Birkel, Tal Tischer and the aforementioned Pat McGinnis. Coach Ripp's offenses were known for their diversity and the ability to keep opposing defenses on their toes.
