Level 4 weekend of the high school football playoffs is here. Eau Claire residents were treated to some Friday morning snows which can only mean that Stratford is coming to Carson Park again. Remember last year's playoff game between Regis and Stratford that was played after the Chippewa Valley got 6 inches of snow?
This time around the undefeated Owen-Withee Blackhawks are Stratford's opponent. West Wisconsin Sports will be there under the lights tonight and have a recap for you next week.

West Wisconsin Sports offers our sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of  Jared Johnson. The 18 year-old fromStanley was killed in a one vehicle crash shortly before the Stanley-Boyd vs Chetek football game last Friday night. He was a defensive lineman and one of most liked teammates on the squad.

Eau Claire North head football coach Dean Rosemeyer will return to coach the Huskies next season.

Eau Claire Regis head football coach Stu Brown has stepped down after 1 season.

WQOW-TV 18 is reporting the vacant Eau Claire Memorial head football coaching position may not be filled until next spring due to uncertainties with the number of teaching vacancies that may or may not open up within the school.

Seth Soley who was Eau Claire Memorial's leading hockey scorer from a year ago is leaving Eau Claire to join the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League. (USHL) Soley will play for NCAA Division 1 program Michigan Tech next year.

Eau Claire North basketball standout Hannah Quilling has given an oral commitment to play for UW-Green Bay next year. The Phoenix play in the Horizon League in NCAA Division I.

The Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association recently released their 2007-2008 girls all-state team. Some area girls golfers who were recognized include:

It's I-94 football week this week as the UWEC Blugolds and UW-Stout Blue Devils football teams clash at Carson Park for the regular season finale for both teams. The Blugolds have an opportunity to finish 8-2 on the regular season for the first time since 2002.

Finally, here is an interesting article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal about the cable companies who are refusing to carry such channels as the Big Ten Network and NFL Network. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=684237
It seems the cable companies are losing thousands of viewers in this state. The cable companies could lose even more viewers if AT&T is allowed to offer their video service in this state. DirecTV, Dish Network and AT&T all carry the NFL Network and Big Ten Network while cable companies such as Time Warner and Charter Communications do not.
