A lot of games going on this weekend (Thurs, Fri, Sat) between teams that are in first and second place in their respective conferences. Be sure to check out our Top 5 games feature and we hope you will be able to attend some of those games.

Casey Weber who is a senior on the Rice Lake girls basketball team is very close to eclipsing the 1,100 point scoring mark in her storied career. She could do it this Friday at River Falls.

The 10-0 Eleva-Strum Cardinals put on quite a defensive show last Saturday at the Eau Claire Regis Ramblers gym. They got after it and pressured the Ramblers full-court for all 32 minutes. Only 2 Cardinals opponents have able to score 40 or more points on them so far this season. It was great to get to the Ramblers gym 90 minutes before the varsity game started and see the stands 80% full already. Lance Rongstad who was bloodied earlier in the game brought the house down with a monster dunk in the 4th quarter.

The undefeated New Richmond Tigers are giant killers beating first place Spooner from the Heart O' North by one point earlier this season and then beating Eau Claire North by one point at the doghouse last week thanks to a last second shot by Brett Anderson. The Tigers are one of the most athletic and well disciplined teams in this area and should make some noise come tournament time.

UW-Eau Claire Blugolds fans who happen to also be Green Bay Packers fans might feel stuck between a rock and a hard place this Saturday. The UW-Whitewater Warhawks come to town with the Women's game at 3:00 and the Men's game at 5:00. The problem is that the Packers play the Seattle Seahawks at 3:30. On Monday the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram published a couple of articles related to this conflict of interest. Here they are in case you haven't seen them yet.

WWS would also like to voice our displeasure with the WIAC commissioner Gary Karner for denying UW-Eau Claire's request to move the start times of these games to 11am and 1pm. Who would it hurt to move these start times up? UW-Whitewater will be in Eau Claire Friday night. Moving the start times up would be beneficial for the fans, for ticket sales, program sales, food and beverage sales, etc.... UW-Eau Claire came up with a wonderful solution to this problem and it was shot down by someone whose office is in Madison.
It is our opinion that the WIAC commissioner has too much power and oversight in matters like these and that they should be left up to the individual schools. It should also be noted this matter has been a hot topic for debate this week at two other sports sites other than this one. For fans going to the games on Saturday UW-Eau Claire will have television monitors set up in the hallways to view at halftime and between games.

The afore mentioned Green Bay Packers host the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday. Holmgren comes to Green Bay yet again for a playoff game. Our prediction? Packers 24 Seahawks 20.

Brett Favre told the Mississippi Sun Herald today that he plans on returning for an 18th season no matter what happens on Saturday in the Packers game vs Seattle. This is a change from previous years when Favre was undecided about coming back for another season and did not make a decision until weeks/months after the Packers season had ended.
