After 16 seasons as the Packers signal caller
and 17 seasons in the NFL overall Brett Favre has decided to call it a career.
Green Bay Packers fans were awakened to this chilling news this morning as
media outlets nationwide and statewide reported this MAJOR news story. One
loyal Packers supporter who was wearing his Green Bay Packers winter coat this
morning told West Wisconsin Sports that "This is a black day for Packer
fans."
Brett Favre messaged Chris Mortensen of ESPN this morning that he "was
just tired mentally" and "just tired"
Brett also said that in his eyes the only way for him to be successful next
season would be to win a Super Bowl.
Brett Favre resurrected the Packers franchise from the doldrums of the 1970's
and 1980's and led them to many playoff appearances and two Super Bowls
(winning one)
Some quick Favre memories for me include the playoff win over Detroit at the
Silverdome where Favre scrambled to his left and threw the game winning
touchdown pass to Sterling Sharpe on his right. The very last Packers game at
County Stadium in Milwaukee where Favre scrambled for the game winning
touchdown over Atlanta with a few seconds left. Favre's first Super Bowl
touchdown pass to Andre Rison in the win over the Patriots. Then the Monday
night game against Oakland on the day after Irvin Favre died unexpectedly
where Favre threw for 399 yards and 4 touchdowns.
