Zach Pomputis:

The speedy fullback for Owen-Withee ripped off a 45 yard run on the first play from scrimmage that set the tone for the day. Pomputis repeatedly broke tackles on inside traps and off tackle dives, showing quick evasive moves and power running that belie his 5' 9" 165 pound frame. With the Macks keying on running mate Dustin Kroeplin (20-113 2 TDs), Zach ran up 273 yards on 35 carries and found the end zone 3 times from 34, 33, and 18 yards. Pomputis also had a key second half interception that stopped a McDonell drive deep in Owen territory that helped seal the 48-30 victory. Owen Withee advances with their 12-0 record to a Level 4 matchup against defending state champion Stratford. |

A second time Player of the Week this season, Rongstad had another amazing afternoon for Eleva Strum last Saturday in the Cardinals 40-0 win over Independence/Gilmanton. Running the ball, Lance opened the first quarter scoring with a 58 yard run and never looked back, averaging 14 yards a carry for 141 yards in only 10 rushing attempts. Throwing from a spread formation instead of the usual double wing, Rongstad passed for 274 yards and 1 TD, on 20 completions in 30 attempts. This gave the senior QB a whopping 415
yards of total offense on the day. Nick Zander found time to run for 140 yards as well from his fullback spot. The win sets up the long awaited rematch with Gilman in the semifinals of Level 4. Last year the Pirates blew out the Cards in the state championship game and Eleva has eyes on reversing that score. |
