Indee-Gil's senior running back Austen Whitwam opened the scoring Friday night with a 73 run to the end zone and the rout was on over Melrose-Mindoro. Whitwam added another score in the first quarter on a 2 yard burst and finished the night with 221 yards rushing in the 39-7 win. I-G raised their Dairyland record to 5-0, keeping their one game cushion over Eleva-Strum in the race for the conference title. Whitwam pushed his season totals to 782 yards rushing in pursuit of 1000 yards. Last season Whitwam fell just short of that mark by 59 yards when he put up 941 on the season. Another big rushing night could push him over the 1000 yard mark, while a win over Lincoln this week secures a share of the title, with the big showdown at Eleva-Strum coming in the final regular season contest.
