On paper, the D6 title match was a mismatch. Despite being 13-0, Regis was perhaps the biggest underdog at Camp Randall for the entire tournament facing a Darlington team that featured all state running back Hunter Thompson and an offense that averaged a gaudy 54 points per game. Well the underdogs turned into junk yard dogs and pulled off an upset 27-14 that will be long remembered. With RB Noel Ortiz spearheading the offense, the Ramblers roared to a 20 - 0 halftime lead with stunning efficiency. On the Ramblers' first play, Ortiz bounced off a pair of tacklers, changed directions and raced into Darlington territory to set up the Ramblers' first score. Ortiz would finish the game with 132 yards rushing on 24 carries and 1 rushing TD. Add his ferocious lead blocking on power plays and anchoring the middle of the defensive line, Ortiz was the leader that Coach Brenner hoped he would be in the biggest of all games.
