The Green Bay Packers
sent cheeseheads into a state of disbelief with their disappointing
23-20 overtime loss to the New York Giants on Sunday at frigid Lambeau Field.
I'm sure many of you including me were thinking we would be getting ready
for the Super Bowl but it was not to be. The Packers end their season at
14-4 which is better than most pre-season publications had predicted for the
Green and Gold.
Congratulations to Michelle Burns who
eclipsed the 1,000 point scoring mark in her illustrious UW-Eau
Claire Blugold career in the Blugolds 79-60 win over UW-River Falls.
Burns was also the high scorer in the Blugolds 62-54 win over
UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night. The Blugolds remain undefeated
in conference play and alone in first place in the WIAC.
Congratulations to UW-Eau Claire
freshman Zach Lee from Ladysmith who won the 55 meter dash in his
first collegiate race.
Former UW-Stout women's
basketball standout and two time All-American Kelsey Duoss
finished runner-up in the 2008 Inside Wisconsin Sports magazine's college
female athlete of the year.
Fomer Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver
James Lofton was let go by the San Diego Chargers
as their Receivers coach following the Chargers 21-12 loss to New England on
Sunday. Former Wisconin Badger and current Chargers WR Chris
Chambers called Lofton " one of the greatest receiving coaches
in the game"
Former Hudson and Wisconsin Badgers
standout Annie Nelson who is now Annie Thomas is an assistant
basketball coach for NCAA Division 1 Cleveland State. Annie Thomas
was one the finest basketball players while in Hudson and was a 4 year
letter winner and 3 time Academic All-Big Ten selection. Annie is
married to Cleveland Browns and former Wisconsin Badger left tackle Joe Thomas
who had a very successful first season with the Browns.
Look for Baldwin-Woodville senior Zach
Paul who was the Blackhawks kicker this past season to do his
kicking for UW-River Falls next season.
Former Baldwin-Woodville
basketball standout Marcus Helland has been in the starting
line-up for the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. He
scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 17 minutes in UMD's win over
Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 19th.
Some pretty good stuff there about the
Packers, Eleva-Strum Cardinals, Flambeau Falcons, Memorial Old Abes etc..
